A message to my 29 year old self:
Ignorance is bliss when you are young. When you are young, you think you really know the truth. You think you have life figured out. Do this, do that, in this order or that order. Follow the directions, pay attention, do what you are supposed to do, right? And then all will go your way. That's the thing about youth. It is open and closed at the same time. It thinks all should go a certain way, even if it doesn't know which way that will be.
Ignorance is bliss when you have no idea what challenges, what heartbreaks are ahead.
Ignorance is bliss when you are an eyes wide open person, believing that the future is the same as the present, that the same people will be here in the same world as now. That you will be the same person. When you don't know - REALLY know - that everything changes. You think this is how it is always going to be and you don't know that someday it will all be different.
Ignorance is bliss when it is innocent and trusting and exuberant and full of vitality and warmth.
Ignorance is bliss when the days are wide open and endless, when tomorrow holds more of today, when you think that now is forever.
Ignorance is bliss when Hope is walking in the door. Ignorance believes in Hope and says, "Come on in! Bring your friend Trust in too!"
Ignorance is bliss when Hope and Trust sit together and don't bother to tell the Truth. Ignorance is bliss when Truth is a stranger.
Ignorance is bliss when Truth cannot be seen or heard. Maybe even ignorance is bliss when it hides Truth, when it won't allow Truth to enter the room.
Ignorance is light and airy and skips around. Ignorance wears a smile and believes in this moment. Maybe that's why ignorance is bliss.
Ignorance is bliss when there are no words. When the air has translucent bubbles and blue skies and the ocean waves back at you.
Ignorance is bliss when the steps are light and when the day is young.
